Stress and Time Management Tips
Learn how to Simplify your life and get Underwhelmed

HOW TO DE-STRESS YOUR FREE TIME
Learn some valuable stress management and time management tips in this section and re-assess how to shift your mindset to get better results. Most of us have been raised with the idea that we should always be doing something more productive with our time, like goal setting or managing our time.

It is important to remember, however, that "free time" is productive because it contributes to our soul's passion for living, and is one of the simplest ideas to better stress management. Make a conscious decision that every weekend doesn't have to be the same old routine of yard/house work, laundry, grocery shopping etc. Break with tradition and take a mini vacation one weekend a month. Be sure you keep work and play separate and avoid the tendency to turn play into work. You may need to find new playmates for variety.

Expand your leisure horizons by trying new activities - be spontaneous. Allow yourself to do what you really enjoy doing, not what you think you should do. And above all, don't let guilt about play sour your enjoyment. Relaxing is a a big part of stress and time management.

SIMPLIFY WITH FINGERTIP MANAGEMENT
One of the easiest techniques that can help you manage your stress and time is Fingertip Management. Fingertip management at home and in the office is having at your fingertips what is needed when it is needed.

To do this effectively you must first eliminate the things you don't need. Declare war on clutter. Remember, other than the dog, the wastebasket (and the Salvation Army if the item is still useful to someone else) is your best friend.

Another fingertip idea, literally, is to do your banking, bill paying and shopping online to save a lot of time through automation. And there is always "delivery". Investigate services that will make deliveries to you and you'll be on your way to developing time management skills that will feel effortless.

HOW TO BE UNDERWHELMED

People who find themselves constantly buried under a mountain of work are the same ones who experience a tremendous amount of daily stress. See if you or someone you know agrees to one or more of the following statements:

  • I try to accomplish too much.
  • I do not delegate.
  • I procrastinate.
  • I allow too many interruptions.

Being constantly overwhelmed is not only counter-productive; it's unhealthy. It is also a good indication that you are ready for a shift in your mind-set. You can easily make this shift by reassessing your current responsibilities and actually reassigning the ones that you can. And start using your Planning Guidelines, see page (put page number here) for more information about how to plan. Check out our comprehensive book for more time and stress management techniques if you want to set up a system to bring back the time and joy in your life. Before you start goal setting tomorrow, remember, to enjoy the rest of today.
